AURORA, Ill., September 2, 2016 — After dropping for two months, pump prices are again on the rise in Illinois and northern Indiana heading into Labor Day weekend. Illinois prices are averaging $2.33, an increase from $2.15 a month ago but still down considerable from $2.73 a year ago. Indiana drivers are paying on average $2.27, up from $2.11 a month ago but still nearly $.20 lower than a year ago.
“The Midwest faced some refinery issues this past month which drove prices higher, especially in the Chicago metro region and in Indiana.” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA – The Auto Club Group, “As these issues have now been fixed, drivers should start to see prices come back down again as we head into the fall season.”
In August in Illinois, gas prices averaged $2.25, which was down $.01 from July and $.60 less than a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $2.19 in August, which was up $.06 from July and down $.62 from August 2015.

In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.48, which is down $.03 from last month and $.70 lower than last year’s price-per-gallon.
In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.33 per gallon, which is a $.07 increase from July and down $.67 from last year.
In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.30 per gallon, which is up $.05 compared to last month and $.67 lower than last year’s price.
In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.32 per gallon, which is $.07 higher than last month and down by $.66 compared to this time last year.
In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.28 per gallon, which is $.02 higher than last month’s average and $.69 lower than last year.
In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.28 per gallon, which is $.01 higher compared to last month and $.65 lower compared to last year.
In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.11 per gallon, an increase of $.06 from July and $.48 lower than last year.
In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.15 per gallon, which is $.07 higher than last month and $.44 lower than last year.
In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.12 per gallon, which is up $.05 compared to last month and down $.47 from August 2015.
In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.11 per gallon, which is $.07 higher than last month and $.49 lower than last year.
In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.13 per gallon, a decrease of $.09 from July and $.64 lower than August 2015.
In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.11 per gallon, which is $.07 higher than last month and $.49 lower than August 2015’s price.
In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.18 per gallon, which is up $.06 from July’s average and is a $.63 decrease from a year ago.
In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.23 per gallon, which is $.06 higher than last month and $.58 lower than last year.
In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.14 per gallon, which is $.03 higher compared to last month and $.48 lower than last year.
