AURORA, Ill., May 6, 2016 — Gas prices across Illinois and northern Indiana are at their highest levels in more than six months, with Illinois prices averaging $2.34 per gallon and Indiana prices averaging $2.23 per gallon. While these prices represent respective increases of $.24 and $.27 from just a month ago, drivers in both states are still paying almost $.30 less per gallon than they were a year ago.

Increased demand has pushed prices higher in many parts of the country, including the Midwest,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. “Despite these seasonal increases, we still believe that drivers will be paying the lowest summer gas prices in 12 years.”

In April in Illinois, gas prices averaged $2.20, which was up $.19 from March and $.39 less than a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $2.10 in April, which was up $.23 from April and down $.46 from April 2015.
