Lower demand, switch to less expensive winter blend push prices lower
05 September 2014
AURORA, Ill., Sep 5, 2014 - Gas price averages across Illinois and Indiana continue to drop heading into the fall season. Illinois and Indiana drivers are currently paying on average $3.55 and $3.51 respectively for a gallon of regular unleaded. These prices mark the lowest prices for a September start since 2010.
In August in Illinois, gas prices averaged $3.51, which was down $.17 from July 2014 and down $.19 from August 2013. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $3.55 in August, which was down $.04 from July and down $.10 from August 2013.
“As we cruise out of the summer driving season, lower demand coupled with the switch to a cheaper winter blend of gasoline will likely bring lower prices at the pump,” said Beth Mosher, AAA spokeswoman. “If we can get through September without any refinery issues, drivers should enjoy much lower prices this fall.”
