Indiana and Illinois top largest weekly price drops for gasoline

Aurora, Ill. (July 2, 2018) – With the Independence Day holiday travel season upon us, Illinois and Indiana gas prices have slightly dropped over the past month. The average price in Illinois for an unleaded gallon of gasoline to start July is $2.95, down $.16 from a month ago and up from $2.27 – the price a year ago. The average across the Chicago metro region in July is $3.13, down from $3.28 a month ago and up from $2.44 a year ago. In Indiana, the average price is $2.89, down $.09 from a month ago and up $.76 from last year’s price. Indiana and Illinois also top the largest weekly state price drops with a decrease of $.08 for Illinois and $.14 for Indiana.
 
“This year almost 40 million people will be traveling by car during the holiday week,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. “The price drop in gasoline will be welcome news to travelers heading out for the Independence Day holiday.”  
 
The average price for June in Illinois was $3.01, an increase of $.03 from the previous month and $.66 higher from last year’s prices. In northern Indiana in June, the average price was $2.95 which was the same as last month and $.72 higher than last year.

In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.27, which is up $.07 from last month and $.68 higher than last year’s price-per-gallon.
In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.04 per gallon, which is a $.03 decrease and up $.67 from last year.
In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.03 per gallon, which is down $.03 compared to last month and $.66 higher than June  2018’s price.
In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.00 per gallon, which is $.04 lower than last month and $.66 higher than last year’s price.
In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.96 per gallon, which is $.05 lower than last month’s average and $.63 higher than last year’s price per gallon.
In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.02 per gallon, which is    $.02 lower compared to last month and $.71 higher compared to last year.
In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.82 per gallon, a decrease of $.01 from June and $.73 higher than last year.
In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.85 per gallon, which is $.03 higher than last month and $.64 higher than last year.
In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.91 per gallon, which is up $.02 compared to last month and up $.67 from last year.
In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.82 per gallon, which is $.01 lower than last month and $.64 higher than last year.
In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.88 per gallon, an increase of $.06 from June and $.59 higher than June 2018.
In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.86 per gallon, which is $.01 higher than last month and $.67 higher than June 2018’s price.
In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.95 per gallon, which is the same as June’s average and is up $.72 from a year ago.
In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.95 per gallon, which is the same as last month and $.72 higher than last year.
In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.89 per gallon, which is $.06 lower compared to last month and $.68 higher than last year.
