The Michigan state average is down 12 cents compared to last week

20 January 2020

DEARBORN, Mich., (January 20, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan is down 12 cents compared to a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.48 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is the same as this time last month and 41 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $37 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $7 from when prices were their highest last July.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) gas demand hit 8.56 million b/d last week. The current rate of demand is in line with last year’s rate seen in mid-January, a time that typically brings lower demand due to winter weather. EIA’s data also revealed that total domestic stocks of gasoline grew by 6.7 million bbl last week, bringing the total to 258.3 million bbl.

"Growing stocks amid lower demand have helped ease pump prices," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.52 per gallon, about 7 cents less than last week’s average and about 43 cents more than this same time last year.
