The Michigan state average is still 95 cents less than this time last year

01 June 2020

DEARBORN, Mich., (June 1, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan stayed the same compared to last week.  Michigan drivers are still paying an average price of $1.96 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 50 cents more than this time last month but still 95 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $29 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $15 from when prices were their highest last July.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), demand grew from 6.8 million b/d to 7.3 million b/d last week. The increase in demand was coupled with a 700,000 bbl decrease in total domestic stocks to 255 million bbl.

“The Michigan state average holding steady means that gas demand and supply are largely in sync, which will likely help to stabilize pump prices for motorists," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $1.98 per gallon, 3 cents more than last week’s average and 88 cents less than this time last year.
