The Michigan state average is still 99 cents less than this time last year

11 May 2020

DEARBORN, Mich., (May 11, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 31 cents compared to last week.  Michigan drivers are now paying an average price of $1.84 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 28 cents more than this time last month but still 99 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $28 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $16 from when prices were their highest last July.

The Energy Information Administration released new data that showed demand for gasoline increased by 800,000 b/d to 6.7 million b/d last week, which is 3.2 million b/d less than last year at this time. The boost in demand continues to push pump prices up around the country, as more states re-open businesses.

“Gas demand is expected to continue to grow, leading pump prices to continue their increase through the week," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $1.80 per gallon, 24 cents more than last week’s average and $1.03 less than this time last year.
