The Michigan state average is up 2 cents compared to last week

21 September 2020

DEARBORN, Mich., (September 21, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 2 cents compared to last week.  Michigan drivers are now paying an average price of $2.06 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 10 cents less than this time last month and about 71 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $31 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $13 from when prices were their highest last July.

In the new weekly report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand saw a slight uptick from 8.39 million b/d to 8.48 million b/d. However, demand is still 461,000 b/d lower than where it was at this time last year. Lower demand has helped pump prices to decline this week, while total domestic gasoline stocks fell by 400,000 bbl to 231.5 million bbl.

“The slight uptick in gas demand has likely led to the small increase in Michigan gas prices,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "If demand decreases as stocks tighten, motorists could see prices hold steady through the week."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.14 per gallon, 1 cent less than last week’s average and 65 cents less than this time last year.
