Collaborative Effort Brings Traffice Safety Equipment to the Community
DEARBORN, Mich., (September 6, 2019) — The Mundy Township Department was presented with the AAA Traffic Safety Grant Award today. Fire Chief Ed Blight was on hand to accept the check along with AAA representative Karen Foco, Field Branch Manager for AAA-The Auto Club Group.
The $639.95 AAA Traffic Safety grant funded the purchase of traffic safety equipment that will be used to help promote safety during emergency incidents, reduce the risk of crashes at incident sites and protect the motoring public. This grant will help the department acquire much-needed traffic safety equipment that is not available through its current fiscal resources. The equipment purchased will reduce crashes and prevent injuries to motorists and first responders working at a crash or disabled vehicle site on the road.
"This equipment is especially important at night, as it gets very dark here outside the city," stated Chief Blight. "The flares and the other equipment are key to allowing motorists to see first responders at night."
Since 1993, the AAA Traffic Safety Grant program has been awarding grants for life-saving equipment throughout Michigan. Over the years, nearly 1.5 million dollars-worth of traffic safety equipment has been donated to various organizations in the state. This is part of AAA’s legacy of traffic safety advocacy efforts for the motoring public.
