CRUDE OIL MOVES HIGHER AFTER THREAT OF TROPICAL STORM BONNIE
TAMPA, Fla. (July 25, 2010) - Crude oil rose $2.89 last week as Tropical Storm Bonnie posed a threat to Gulf oil refining. Although Bonnie weakened and caused no rig damage, crude oil closed Friday at $78.98 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
An investor rally after the Dow gained 0.9 percent and the S&P index rose 0.6 percent also contributed to the rise in crude price.
"As with any rise in the price of crude oil, retail gas prices will increase. Crude’s price increase was minimal, so consumers shouldn’t see too big a jump in retail prices this week," said Jessica Brady, manager, AAA Public Relations.
The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline is $2.73 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week. Florida’s average price of $2.67 and Tennessee’s average price of $2.55 both show a 3-cent increase from last week. And, Georgia’s average price of $2.59 reflects a 2-cent increase from last week, respectively.
