AAA KICKS OFF ‘TOW TO GO’ TO KEEP INTOXICATED DRIVERS OFF THE ROAD DURING SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

Program Celebrates the Removal of More Than 13,600 Drunk Drivers from Roadways Since 1998

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 2, 2011) – AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser will protect roadways during Super Bowl weekend with the ‘Tow to Go’ program. Everyone is encouraged to plan ahead before they celebrate and choose a designated driver, however, if football fans find they are unable to get a safe ride home, they can call ‘Tow to Go’ from February 4-6.

‘Tow to Go’ provides a confidential ride home and tow FREE of charge – to anyone who may have had too much to drink and needs a ride from a bar or restaurant by simply calling 1-800-AAA-HELP. Services are now offered throughout the states of Florida, Georgia, and West and Middle Tennessee.

“We want to remind all football fans celebrating with alcohol to make the right decision before kickoff and designate a sober driver,” said Ed Schatzman, sr. vice president, Automotive Services, AAA Auto Club South. “Asking a friend or loved one to give you a safe ride is the right thing to do.”

“Those who plan ahead to get home safely after the big game, either by designating a driver in advance or getting a ride from Tow to Go, are part of the winning team,” said Kathy Casso, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, Anheuser-Busch.

‘Tow to Go’ will be available Super Bowl weekend and for the following holiday weekends in 2011:

  • Super Bowl Weekend
  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • Cinco de Mayo
  • Memorial Day Weekend
  • Independence Day Weekend
  • Labor Day Weekend
  • Halloween
  • Thanksgiving - New Year’s Day

Designated Driver Planning Tips:

  • Choose a designated driver who is not going to drink; don’t select a driver at the end of the night because they had the least to drink.
  • Select a designated driver and turn over the keys before the party begins.
  • Program phone numbers of cab companies in a cell phone before going out in case your designated driver doesn’t come through.
  • Call ‘Tow to Go’ for a FREE ride home for you and your car if you find yourself unable to get a safe ride home: 1-800-AAA-HELP.

AAA Auto Club South has 79 branch offices serving more than 4.1 million members in Florida, Georgia, West and Middle Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Since its founding in 1938, AAA Auto Club South has worked to protect and advance freedom of mobility and improve travel safety.
