AAA Protects motorists from more than car troubles this Labor Day Weekend

Tow to Go provides FREE rides and tows to intoxicated drivers and their cars throughout the holiday

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2010) – AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser will help protect roadways throughout the Labor Day weekend with the ‘Tow to Go’ program. Tow to Go has safely removed more than 11,660 drunk drivers off roadways since the program began in 1998. Anyone, members and non-members, can call for a ‘Tow to Go’ ride, Friday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 6.

‘Tow to Go’ provides a confidential ride and tow home from any bar or restaurant – FREE of charge – to anyone who may have had too much to drink by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP (4357). Services are now offered throughout all of Florida, Georgia, and West and Middle Tennessee.

“Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer and with so many people enjoying barbecues or going out to restaurants, it means many could be drinking,” said Ed Schatzman, senior vice president, AAA Automotive Services. “Considering this, it appears we may have a very serious situation and AAA and law enforcement will be doing everything possible to get intoxicated drivers off our roads this weekend.”

“Our country was built by the many men and women who make up our workforce,” said Kathy Casso, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, Anheuser-Busch. “As we celebrate the Labor Day weekend, let’s not forget the hard-working AAA service technicians who provide rides home from Tow to Go and help keep our roads safe for our families and friends.”

AAA and Budweiser encourage individuals to plan for a safe celebration by being or choosing a ‘Designated Driver,’ or calling ‘Tow to Go’ for a safe ride home, rather than allow anyone to drive whose sobriety is in question.

If you are at a bar or restaurant and need Tow to Go, expect:
  •  Call 1-800-222-4357 and tell the operator this is a call for Tow to Go service
  •  Operator will ask for your first name and the address of your location
  •  Expect a AAA tow truck service technician to come into the establishment and ask for you
  •  AAA service tech will then collect your keys and load your vehicle while you wait inside the establishment
  •  AAA Service Technician (or service tech if you want) will then take you and your car home safely—no questions asked
AAA Auto Club South is the third largest affiliate of AAA, with 78 branch offices serving 4.1 million members in Florida, Georgia, West and Middle Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. Since its founding in 1938, AAA Auto Club South has worked to protect and advance freedom of mobility and improve travel safety.
