GEORGIA GAS PRICES SET NEW 2019-HIGH

The state average rises 16 cents in 18 days

ATLANTA, Ga., (March 4, 2019)  Georgia gas prices set a new 2019-high of $2.30 per gallon, after rising for the 18th consecutive day, for a total of 16 cents.

Sunday’s state average of $2.30 per gallon is 2 cents more than a week ago, and 16 cents more than last month. Despite the uptick, Georgia motorists are still paying 13 cents per gallon less than this time last year.

In February, gas prices around the state averaged $2.19 per gallon.  The monthly average is 9 cents more than January 2019, yet 25 cents less than February 2018. So far this month, gas prices remain well below the monthly average in March 2018 of $2.45 per gallon.

"Pump prices have steadily climbed in Georgia, and that springtime bounce is far from finished," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "Normal spring factors like rising demand, refinery maintenance, and the introduction of summer-blend gasoline should keep upward pressure on pump prices for the next couple of months. Gas prices generally reach their annual peak by Memorial Day, unless a hurricane or refinery outage threatens supplies. AAA forecasts prices will peak at around $2.75 before summer."

Georgia Regions:

  • Most expensive gas prices: Brunswick ($2.46), Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($2.39), Savannah ($2.36)
  • Least expensive gas prices: Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.22), Warner Robins ($2.23), Dalton ($2.24)
