AURORA, Ill., Sept. 9, 2013—Gas price averages for Illinoisand Indiana are falling slightly as the summer driving season comes to an end. Illinois and Indiana drivers are currently paying on average, $3.76 and $3.62 respectively for a gallon of regular unleaded.
In August in Illinois, gas prices averaged $3.70, which was down $.14 from July and down $.33 from a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $3.65 in July, which was down $.11 from July and down $.35 from August 2012.
“While gas prices appear to be falling slightly, the situation in the Middle East as well as the end of a very calm hurricane season, make September prices very unpredictable," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago.
Other August monthly averages across the region:
· In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.90, which is down $.08 from last month and $.31 lower than last year’s price-per-gallon.
· In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.75 per gallon, which is a $.20 decrease from July and down $.41 from last year.
· In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.70 per gallon, which is down $.20 compared to last month and $.43 lower than August 2012’s price.
· In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.71 per gallon, which is $.22 lower than last month and down by $.42 compared to this time last year.
· In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.73 per gallon, which is $.19 lower than last month’s average and $.39 lower than August 2012’s price.
· In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.71 per gallon, which is $.23 lower compared to last month and $.41 lower compared to last year.
· In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.50 per gallon, a decrease of $.08 from July and a decrease of $.31 from last year.
· In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.59 per gallon, which is $.04 lower than last month and $.21 lower than last year.
· In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.61 per gallon, which is down $.01 compared to last month and down $.24 from August 2012.
· In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.62 per gallon, which is $.01 lower than last month and $.20 lower than last year.
· In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.56 per gallon, a decrease of $.11 from July and $.34 lower than August 2012.
· In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.55 per gallon, which is $.03 lower than last month and $.29 lower than August 2012’s price.
· In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is down $.11 from July’s average and a $.35 decrease from a year ago.
· In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.65 per gallon, which is $.11 lower than last month and $.34 lower than last year.
· In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.60 per gallon, which is $.06 lower compared to last month and $.27 lower compared to last year.
