AAA AUTO CLUB SOUTH AND BUDWEISER WILL PROTECT ROADWAYS FROM DRUNK DRIVERS THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

 

FREE Ride Home for Intoxicated Drivers and their Vehicles November 24 through January 2

 

TAMPA, FL (Nov. 18, 2010)—AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser will protect drivers on the road for Thanksgiving weekend thanks to ‘Tow to Go’— a program that provides a confidential ride home and tow, free of charge, to anyone who may have had too much to drink by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP (4357).

‘Tow to Go’ has kept more than 12,300 drunk drivers off the roads since 1998 and is designed to protect everyone on the roads from preventable car crashes, not just the intoxicated driver from a DUI. Services are now offered throughout all of Florida, Georgia, and West and Middle Tennessee.

“I’m happy to be a part of Tow to Go even if it means dealing with folks who are sometimes out of their element,” said Tim Allison, driver service technician for AAA Auto Club South in Florida. “Many programs raise awareness of drunk driving, but I have the opportunity to actually remove drunk drivers from the roads where my family and yours travel every day.”

“The busiest time for the ‘Tow to Go’ program is during the upcoming holiday season when more than 70 percent of the call volume is received,” said Ed Schatzman, sr. vice president, Automotive Services, AAA Auto Club South. “We have decided once again to offer the Tow to Go services from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s Day to anyone who may need it because we want everyone to make it home safely to their families this holiday season.”

“We’re pleased to partner with AAA and their service technicians to keep our roads safe during the holiday season,” said Kathy Casso, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, Anheuser-Busch. “There’s no better gift anyone can give than being a designated driver, and thanks to Tow to Go, anyone who may have had too much to drink can get a safe ride home during the holidays.” 
 
AAA and Budweiser encourage individuals to plan for a safe celebration by being or choosing a ‘Designated Driver’ or calling ‘Tow to Go’ for a safe ride home, rather than allowing anyone to drive whose sobriety is in question.
 
If you are hosting a holiday party—make sure you do everything possible to make sure your guests are safe:
 
  • Don’t make alcohol the main focus of your party. Introduce games and activities that will allow guests to be engaged in something other than drinking.
  • Keep your eyes open for guests who may be overindulging. Someone who has had too much to drink will need time to sober up. Enable them to do that by cutting off their alcohol supply.
  • Plan ahead to accommodate guests who may become too intoxicated to drive. Prepare a spare bedroom or a designated area for those who will need a place to stay and have the number of a local cab company on-hand.
