A sign of the times, AAA is forgoing its annual in-person travel shows this year, which normally attract hundreds seeking information on the latest travel trends and deals. Instead, The Auto Club Group is hosting these shows virtually, giving prospective travelers an opportunity to plan their next vacation in a socially distant environment.

“Travel is on the rebound,” said Gene LaDoucer, director of public affairs for AAA – The Auto Club Group’s heartland region. “With vaccines becoming more widely available, people are feeling more confident about traveling again. However, because of the pandemic, the travel landscape has changed. Travel shows enable people to talk directly to the experts. They can ask questions, learn about emerging trends, and even book their next vacation all from the comfort of their own home.”

Since the pandemic began, attendance in AAA live virtual events has more than tripled, with an increase of more than 240 percent. The top three reasons North Dakotans cite for attending a virtual travel show are to avoid being in crowds (33%), to gather information at own pace (26%), and to avoid getting sick (25%) – according to a new AAA travel survey.
