One of only two students selected from across Michigan
DEARBORN, Mich., (August 14, 2019) — Peck High School graduate Abbey Bullis will start her first year of college with a $2,500 scholarship earned in the 25th annual AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol Scholarship Program. The program rewards graduating Michigan seniors who formerly served as AAA School Safety Patrol members in elementary school. To be considered for the AAA Michigan Safety Patrol scholarship, students must have:
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher
- ACT score of 21 or higher or SAT score of 950 or higher
- Letters of reference from school and non-school sources
- Proof of AAA School Safety Patrol participation
Bullis’ AAA School Safety Patrol experience at Peck Elementary School was where her leadership characteristics started to take shape. “I was responsible for ensuring the younger students stayed safe in the hallways and getting to and from busses,” she wrote in her application. “This is also the first experience I really had with being a role model and inspiration to younger students. It is something that has stuck with me, and I’m extremely proud of the person it has made me today.” Abbey was Valedictorian of the Peck High School Class of 2019 and completed 30 hours of college credit while dually enrolled at St. Clair Community College. She also received the President’s Gold Volunteer Service Award for over 250 hours of community service in one year!
“Abbey has demonstrated the leadership qualities and commitment to community service that the AAA School Safety Patrol embodies and, for those reasons, is well deserving of this scholarship,” stated Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. Bullis will attend Oakland University in the fall and major in Mathematics-Education.
